Major improvements on way for road in Rutherglen
Published: Monday 2 March 2026
Improvement works are to be carried out on a road in Rutherglen from this weekend.
The works on A724 Cambuslang Road will see the carriageway resurfaced and will take place across six nights from 8pm to 6am nightly.
They will take place from Sunday 8 March to Saturday 14 March and will result in the closure of A724 Cambuslang Road from M74 Southbound off slip to Hamilton Road.
During the woks there will be a signed diversion route:
Eastbound – Farmeloan Road, Main Street, Hamilton Road and Cambuslang Road.
Westbound – Hamilton Road, Main Street, A730 Glasgow Road, Rutherglen Road, Shawfield Drive, Poplin Street, Dalmarnock Road and Cambuslang Road.
Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause to road users.
“We would request that all road users allow additional time for all journeys which involve the use of Redwood Road during the times indicated and that they plan their routes accordingly.
“We are sure road users will appreciate the long-term benefits of the improvements when the work has been completed.”
The works have been scheduled to take place during nightshift working to minimise disruption and reduce congestion to all road users.
